Members of the Trust team were delighted to attend and be part of such a warm and welcoming occasion. Our colleagues Rosemary and Barbara were pleased to join the morning welcome committee, greeting players as they arrived, while our Chair Tony, trustee Geoff, and Trust Manager Dena joined the players later for lunch. The hospitality throughout the day was wonderful, and everyone from the Trust was made to feel genuinely welcome.

Geoff took the opportunity during lunch to speak about the vital and unique role that Dacorum Community Trust plays in supporting local residents who are facing financial hardship and have nowhere else to turn. Our clients include individuals and families who have experienced homelessness, domestic violence, relationship breakdown, mental or physical ill-health, or other circumstances of extreme poverty. We respond quickly to immediate crises, whilst signposting clients with more complex needs to other local organisations for ongoing support.

We provide help with essential household items such as beds, bedding, and large and small white goods, as well as energy, supermarket, and clothing vouchers. To give a sense of what your support means in practice:

£15 will pay for a kettle or toaster
£20 will pay for transport to a hospital visit or job interview
£50 will pay for a supermarket, energy, or clothing voucher
£200–£250 will pay for a fridge freezer or washing machine

These are the everyday items and small sums of money that most of us take for granted, but which can make an enormous difference to someone at their most vulnerable.

Every year, Volunteers Week gives us the chance to pause and say a heartfelt thank you to the people who make everything we do possible. This year, we celebrated in fine style at the Kings Langley Local Charity Event, and what a day it was.

Our Trust Manager was proud to attend the Kings Langley Local Charity Event alongside our wonderful volunteer Sarah, where they were honoured to meet the Deputy Lieutenant of Hertfordshire, Liz Green OBE. It was an afternoon filled with conversation and community spirit. Events like this are a beautiful reminder of just how much can be achieved when people come together in the spirit of giving.

Imagine moving into new accommodation following a period of homelessness, or perhaps you had to leave everything behind  to flee a dangerous or difficult situation. Of course you are grateful for the four walls and a roof, but you have no plate to eat from, no mug to make a cup of tea and no cutlery, no utensils. 

That is exactly where Dacorum Community Trust steps in with the help of Waitrose Berkhamsted. Our emergency kitchen starter packs bring together essential items – including crockery, cutlery, utensils, and more – and place them directly in the hands of individuals and families when they are needed the most. 

Waitrose’s green token scheme invites shoppers to vote for their favourite local causes each time they visit the store. The tokens add up, and the charity with the most support at the end of the scheme period receives a share of the funding. It is a wonderfully simple idea that turns an everyday shopping trip into a meaningful act of community generosity.

Our Trust Manager, Dena, visited Waitrose Berkhamsted to accept the cheque in person. “This funding will make a tangible difference to people at one of the most vulnerable moments in their lives,” said Dena. “A kitchen starter pack might seem like a small thing, but for some it is the difference between a house and a home.”

We are incredibly grateful to the team at Waitrose Berkhamsted, and to every single shopper who placed a token in our box. Your support helps us be there for people in our community when they need it most.

Some of the fantastic raffle prizes on offer at Redbourn Golf Club’s Senior Charity Golf Day, in aid of Dacorum Community Trust.

Rosemary who is in charge of finance, was on hand throughout the day selling raffle tickets, with some truly amazing prizes. Our Chair, Tony, and Trust Manager, Dena, also attended the lunch, where they had the opportunity to speak to guests about the work the Trust does in our local community.

For those who may not be familiar with us, Dacorum Community Trust is a small, independent charity that supports local people facing financial hardship who have nowhere else to turn. We provide help with essential household items such as beds and white goods, as well as energy, clothing, and supermarket vouchers. Our aim is to resolve immediate crises quickly and to signpost clients with more complex needs to other local organisations for further support.

To put the funds raised into perspective, £2,463 could provide between 50 and 60 families with energy, supermarket, or clothing vouchers – a lifeline for people who are struggling to meet the most basic of needs. During the 2025–2026 financial year, the Trust supported more than 1,000 local people in crisis and made 2,269 referrals to partner agencies for clients needing longer-term assistance. Every pound raised makes a genuine and direct difference to people in need.

Why This Matters

At Dacorum Community Trust, we can act quickly to resolve practical crises so that people can get back on their feet and on with their lives. One of the growing needs we’ve identified is access to emergency bedding — including duvets, pillows, sheets, and blankets — for people who have lost their home, fled domestic abuse, or are sleeping in inadequate conditions.
